The location of 1828 provides unrivalled views of Porto and Douro River. Complementing the beautiful landscape is the restaurant’s elegant interior décor.
In addition to the main room, the restaurant has two private dining rooms, often used for exclusive dinners and events. The menu focuses on upscale, seasonal cuisine and revolving dishes in accordance to the changing seasons. Most notably are the decadent chocolate desserts, which pair perfectly with Port Wine.
The name, 1828, was inspired by the year that marked the beginning of the Portuguese Civil War, a time marked by famine and plague when D. Miguel came to power. When D. Maria II was named Queen of Portugal, the city was finally able to slowly yet painfully rebuild. The restaurant honours the many adversities overcome by the Porto and honours the legacy of the people.
