WSET Courses

The WOW School of Wine is certified to teach the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) courses. The Wine School offers levels 1 and 2 of the Wine certification in Portuguese and English, being the first to offer sessions in English in Portugal.

Portuguese Wine Specialist – In order to complement the knowledge acquired during the WSET, in order to deepen the knowledge about Portuguese Wines, the Wine School has developed a 3-level program dedicated to Portuguese wine under the same didactics applied to the WSET programs.

Participation in the WSET is not required for PWS enrollment, but is recommended.

Before choosing the best date to register, read the internal policies of WSET courses. Access here. Enrollment and completion of courses are subject to a minimum of 8 people per class. All WSET courses require registration at least 20 days in advance.

It is aimed at people who have little or no prior knowledge of wine. It is designed to provide a solid yet simple introduction to wine.
The qualification will help those who need a basic familiarity with the main types and styles of wines, for example people working with wines as part of a larger beverage portfolio in the retail and hospitality sectors.

8 hours of study in the classroom.

PORTUGUESE WINE SPECIALIST LEVEL 1
It is designed as a complementary part of the WSET Level 1 focused on wines produced in Portugal. While it is not mandatory for people to attend any WSET course in order to attend PWS, it is highly recommended that they do. The approach designed for the course corresponds to the WSET methodology. It is also for people who have little or no prior knowledge of wines, but want to know more about Portuguese wines in an introductory approach to the main producing regions and the most characteristic wines. Check out the special conditions for attending both the WSET and the PWS.

3 hours of classroom study

Application form

It is intended for people who have little or no prior knowledge. It is suitable for those looking to acquire a good level of knowledge about wine, either out of curiosity or if necessary to sustain professional skills, for example in customer service and sales functions in the hospitality, retail and HORECA distribution industries.
It is also useful for those who have a general interest in wine and wish to broaden their knowledge.
17 hours of classroom study plus a minimum of 11 hours of recommended pre-study.

PORTUGUESE WINE SPECIALIST LEVEL 2
It is designed as a complementary part of the WSET L2 focused on wines produced in Portugal. While it is not mandatory for people to take any WSET course to attend the PWS, the same level of experience is highly recommended. It seeks to go further into the characteristics of the main grape varieties and some particularities of the most expressive regions, understanding the impact of the terroir of each region and the main influences.
